Pegboard hook generator: hooks that fit your board

Pick your board — Skådis-compatible slots by default, or US or metric round-hole pegboard — and set how far the hook reaches and how high its tip turns up. The hook hangs from two openings one above the other, so it doesn't fall off when you take a tool down; nothing snaps or twists, it goes on and lifts off the same way. Hole size, pitch and board thickness come from board makers' specs and the most-printed hooks for each board.

Parameters you can tune

Each parameter below rebuilds real geometry on every change — this is parametric CAD, not a scaled mesh.

ParameterDefaultRangeWhat it does
BoardBOARDSkadis-compatible slots (5 mm board)8 boards: slotted, US round-hole, metric round-holeSets hole shape, hole size, pitch and board thickness together: Skådis-style slots (5 mm board or 1.2 mm metal), US 1/4 in and 3/16 in pegboard, US metal pegboard, 6 mm holes on 25 or 16 mm grids, 5 mm holes on 25 mm.
Fit clearanceCLEARANCE0.4 mm0 – 1Taken off the pegs and tabs; half of it widens the gap the board sits in. Raise it if the hook won't seat.
StyleSTYLESingle hookSingle hook / Double hookThe double hook repeats the hook one hole pitch along the board.

Tip heightTIP10 mm0 – 25How far the tip turns up; 0 for a straight peg.

Every parameter can go in the page's link, so one link opens exactly the part you want. Example (50 mm hook for US 1/4 in pegboard):https://www.forgent3d.com/en/generators/pegboard-hook-generator?BOARD=US+pegboard+1%2F4+in+holes+%281%2F4+in+board%29&REACH=50

What's in the STEP file

STEP AP214 in millimetres, exact B-rep — it opens directly in SolidWorks, Fusion, FreeCAD, Onshape or Inventor, and goes straight into a CNC quote form. STL for the slicer is one click too.

Edit with AI on the page

Press “AI edit” in the generator and say what to change — a keyway, holes, a different shape. The AI edits the part's model.py and it rebuilds in your browser, with undo. A few edits a day are free without signing in; to keep the result or go further, copy it into your models and continue with the AI agent.

How it works

  1. 1.Open the generator — the model builds right in your browser, nothing to install.
  2. 2.Tune dimensions and options in the parameter panel; the geometry rebuilds live in 3D.
  3. 3.Export STL / STEP for printing — or ask the AI agent for features beyond the sliders.

FAQ

The hook is too tight, or it wobbles. What do I change?

Boards vary: Skådis-style boards measure 4.5–5.5 mm thick, and metal boards are 1.2–1.7 mm. Raise the fit clearance if the hook won't seat; one popular designer widened the board gap to 5.2 mm so it slid onto 5 mm boards. If it wobbles on a thin metal board, pick the metal board in the list: hooks made for 5 mm boards are loose on 1.2 mm metal.

Why are hooks for metric pegboards loose in my US pegboard?

US "1/4 inch" pegboard actually has 9/32 in (7.1 mm) holes, while metric boards often have 6 mm holes. Users of a popular metric hook set report scaling it up 6.5% for US boards. Pick the US board here and the pegs are sized for its holes.

How should I print it, and in what?

Lay it on its side so the layers run along the arm — makers report flat-printed hooks are far stronger than upright ones. Several prefer PETG over PLA; PETG also prints slightly looser, so you may need less clearance. Skådis is an IKEA trademark; these hooks are compatible, not IKEA products.

How do I make a 3D printed hook for standard 1/4 inch pegboard?

Open https://www.forgent3d.com/en/generators/pegboard-hook-generator?BOARD=US%20pegboard%201%2F4&REACH=50 — a 50 mm hook whose upper peg passes through the board and curls down behind it, with a short lower peg in the hole below. The pegs are sized for the real 9/32 in (7.1 mm) holes of 1/4 in hardboard, which is why hooks made for 25 mm metric boards feel loose there.

I need a wide double hook for a Skådis-style board.

https://www.forgent3d.com/en/generators/pegboard-hook-generator?STYLE=Double%20hook&REACH=40&TIP=8 — two hook arms one slot pitch (40 mm) apart on a shared back plate, each hanging from two slots by round tabs that drop into the slot bottoms. Push it straight in, let it drop, lift it off the same way.

Can I sell prints made with these generators?

Yes. Models you generate and the STL / STEP files you export are yours: print them, sell the prints, or use them in a product. No attribution to Forgent3D is required.
