Every parameter is a link parameter; the link below opens the example part. ChatGPT, Claude or any assistant can write one like it from the parameter list (names, units, ranges) at: parameter list (JSON)
Pick how many 42 mm grid cells you need, choose a thin or skeletonized profile, and add magnet or screw holes. The baseplate rebuilds live as parametric CAD — and if your drawer needs an odd fill or a cut corner, the AI agent can edit the same model.
The real generator runs in your browser: set the parameters, then download STEP or STL. Nothing to install, no sign-up.
The first open downloads the CAD engine (about 20 MB).
Each parameter below rebuilds real geometry on every change — this is parametric CAD, not a scaled mesh.
| Parameter | Default | Range | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grid units XGRID_X | 4 u | 1 – 10 | Baseplate width in 42 mm units. |
| Grid units YGRID_Y | 3 u | 1 – 10 | Baseplate depth in 42 mm units. |
| Plate styleSTYLE | thin | thin / skeletonized | Thin saves height; skeletonized saves filament. |
| Magnet holesMAGNET_HOLES | False | on / off | Ø6 × 2 mm pockets matching bin magnets. |
| Screw holesSCREW_HOLES | False | on / off | Countersunk M3 holes to fix the plate down. |
Every parameter can go in the page's link, so one link opens exactly the part you want. Example (5 × 4 sockets (210 × 168 mm), magnet holes):https://www.forgent3d.com/en/generators/gridfinity-baseplate-generator?GRID_X=5&GRID_Y=4&MAGNET_HOLES=true
STEP AP214 in millimetres, exact B-rep — it opens directly in SolidWorks, Fusion, FreeCAD, Onshape or Inventor, and goes straight into a CNC quote form. STL for the slicer is one click too.

Press “AI edit” in the generator and say what to change — a keyway, holes, a different shape. The AI edits the part's model.py and it rebuilds in your browser, with undo. A few edits a day are free without signing in; to keep the result or go further, copy it into your models and continue with the AI agent.
Edit with AI →For bigger changes, several rounds, or a part you want to keep: copy it into your models (free account). The Forgent3D AI agent reads the model.py, edits it, rebuilds it and checks the result itself.
Copy and continue with the AI agent →Thin is the default: fastest print, lowest height, fine for desks. Choose skeletonized to cut filament use on large plates; add screw holes when the plate lives in a moving drawer.
Measure the drawer, divide by 42 mm to get grid counts, and print multiple plates if the drawer exceeds your printer bed. For the remainder gap, copy the model and ask the AI for a custom-width filler strip.
Yes — the socket profile follows the open Gridfinity spec used by gridfinity-rebuilt and MakerWorld generators, so standard bins from any generator click in.
Five by four sockets is 210 × 168 mm: https://www.forgent3d.com/en/generators/gridfinity-baseplate-generator?GRID_X=5&GRID_Y=4. To fill the last few millimetres, press “AI edit” in the generator and ask for a 220 × 180 mm outer border.
Generate it in pieces that fit your bed (for example 3 × 4 and 2 × 4) and lay them side by side in the drawer. Every piece keeps the 42 mm grid, so bins sit across the whole drawer.
Yes. Models you generate and the STL / STEP files you export are yours: print them, sell the prints, or use them in a product. No attribution to Forgent3D is required.
